Accident Description:The aircraft, on a scheduled passenger flight from Madrid to Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, crashed on takeoff from runway 36L at Madrid Barajas Airport. The aircraft had aborted a previous takeoff attempt and returned to the gate due to an overheating air intake valve, which was repaired by mechanics. The plane crashed during its second takeoff attempt approximately an hour and a half later. The MD-82 came to rest between runways 36R and 36L with the fuselage broken in several pieces, exploding in flames and igniting a large brush fire in the vicinity of the wreck site.
